Many of Eisenhower’s administration had shares in, were employed by or had other links to The American Fruit Company, a giant corporation who profits were threatened by President Arbenz’s land reforms in Guatamala. The land reforms were sorely needed in order to allievate the poverty of ordinary Guatemalan people.
After the coup, the reforms failed. Guatemala continues to be a poor and struggling nation today.
